Week 4 posting

Hi Everyone! I hope you are all well!

  1. Describe your experience. (Did you find it beneficial? Difficult?) Why or Why not? Would you recommend this to others? Why or Why not?
Although I understand the point of the listening exercise, I did not find it at all beneficial. I find it very hard to relax when someone is talking. Every time I felt relaxed she would begin to talk again. I really find the oceanic sounds in the background very relaxing and they reminded me of when I had a white noise machine when I was younger. I would recommend this to someone that is trying to relax in this type of way, yet it is not my thing.  I find some relaxing music much better than this to relax to. I agree that having compassion and caring for others is necessary in our lives and we need to concentrate on it to be whole. I do think that visualizing the bad or the suffering that another loved one is feeling  and then letting it go is a great way to let go of negative emotions in our lives.
  1. What is the concept of “Mental Workout? What does the research indicate are the proven benefits of a Mental Work Out? How can you implement mental workouts to foster your psychological health?
The concept is to build up and preserve our mental capabilities, meaning that we are going to do this to be on the path to health happiness and wholeness. There are many different benefits of this. Loving kindness opens our heart to happiness and kindness and will also make it so that we are able to love ourselves and be able to give and receive love. Subtle mind techniques can help us tame and train our minds and in the process access deeper levels of ourselves. I think that if we bring these things into our daily lives and learn to care about ourselves and then others and then learn to make sure that that we are releasing our fears and frustrations our lives and psychologically health will be more complete.

I hope you are all having a great week! Sara

Week 3 =)

Hey everyone! This is already week three! I can't believe it! We will be done before we know it! I have just been learning so much from this class. I find it completely interesting!

*Based on your reflections, and on a scale of 1 to 10 (ten being optimal well being), where do you rate your A-physical well being, B-spiritual well-being, C-psychological well-being? Why?

~I find this a very hard question to answer fully at this time because I am pregnant, and feel terrible all the time! So A = 6 B = 9 and C = 3-5 depending on the day and fears during pregnancy! I think that I am normally a very happy and calm person, yet because of the pregnancy and all of the complications that I have already been having it has turned me into a nervous person!

*Develop a goal for yourself in each area (physical, spiritual, psychological).

~Physically I hope to stay safe during my pregnancy, then after continue with my weight loss plan. Spiritually I would like to become more connected with my emotions. Psychological I would hope that I can continue to think positively and relate it to how I can do things and complete things.

*What activities or exercise can you implement in your life to assist in moving toward each goal?

~I think that I will do more yoga and meditation to fulfil these goals. I also love Pilate's. I think that things like taking a walk every day is also beneficial.

*Complete the relaxation exercise The Crime of the Century. To hear this exercise, click here. Describe your experience. (What it beneficial? Frustrating? etc.)

~I found this similar to the previous exercise. I found it to be a little bit less effective than the last one though. I like the voice and the music though. It was a deep breathing exercise that focused on relaxation therapy. I think that it would be incredibly relaxing if it was done while I was getting a massage or something. Rainbow therapy  is definitely relaxing. It did help me to feel grounded and connected with myself. Although, it was supposed to make me feel more energized, I kept on falling asleep during it rather than getting that source of energy. I actually had to listen to it about 6 times to make it through the whole thing. Which in the end was not very relaxing after all. I think it may have been possible that I was too tired when listening to it, so I did not receive the full effects that I could have.

I can't wait to hear what you all have to say and how you all felt while doing this exercise!
Have a great week!

Hi Everyone! This is week 2! =)

Welcome  to my blog. This is a blog about health and wellness. We will be doing exercises in here to create a connection between a mind and body health pattern.

This week we listened to Journey On. It is a relaxation recording that is designed to assist people in calming down. It uses autogenic training techniques. An autogenic training technique is useful to assist the body in becoming comfortable through thought. The narrator states that during resting 80% of the body's blood supply is in the torso, or GI tract and that the other20% of the blood supply is in the other muscles and areas of the body. Muscle tension is the leading cause of stress. The narrator states that muscles are like sponges.

I found that listening to Journey On was like meditation. When I was a child my parents used to sit by my bed and talk somewhat like this narrator is and put me in such a state of relaxation I would fall asleep. It was useful then and it is useful now. Doing this process made me feel very refreshed. This activity was definitely relaxing. Although I would not recommend it while driving! I think that many different yoga studios and meditation rooms use techniques like this to provide relaxation. I really liked the background music. It made the experience even more relaxing. It felt almost like I was being put under a form of hypnosis.

If you would like to try this exercise here is the URL http://www.kushs.net/kaplan/HW420/JourneyOn.mp3

Thanks everyone for taking time to read. I hope you all have a relaxing week! *SARA W. Health and happiness to all! =)
