Welcome to my blog. This is a blog about health and wellness. We will be doing exercises in here to create a connection between a mind and body health pattern.
This week we listened to Journey On. It is a relaxation recording that is designed to assist people in calming down. It uses autogenic training techniques. An autogenic training technique is useful to assist the body in becoming comfortable through thought. The narrator states that during resting 80% of the body's blood supply is in the torso, or GI tract and that the other20% of the blood supply is in the other muscles and areas of the body. Muscle tension is the leading cause of stress. The narrator states that muscles are like sponges.
I found that listening to Journey On was like meditation. When I was a child my parents used to sit by my bed and talk somewhat like this narrator is and put me in such a state of relaxation I would fall asleep. It was useful then and it is useful now. Doing this process made me feel very refreshed. This activity was definitely relaxing. Although I would not recommend it while driving! I think that many different yoga studios and meditation rooms use techniques like this to provide relaxation. I really liked the background music. It made the experience even more relaxing. It felt almost like I was being put under a form of hypnosis.

Thanks everyone for taking time to read. I hope you all have a relaxing week! *SARA W. Health and happiness to all! =)
Good Evening Sara
ReplyDeleteThis is a really good start. I too enjoyed the CD exercise. For many years I have been listening to CDs for my meditative practice. I find that better for me, because when I just sit in silence my mind still wanders. I am trying to learn to sit in silence. I recently went to a silent retreat. It was awesome. At first it was weird to have so many people around and nobody was talking to each other. They just nodded and smiled and we just sat for hours in silence. I found when I left that I felt refreshed and I did not even want to talk and everything sounded so loud and this was just after a one day retreat. I would love to do the week long session that they offer every year in the mountains. I would probably not even want to talk or hear anything.. Another thing I notice is that when I sit in silence like that my senses seemed to be elevated.
Thanks for sharing your experience.

Hi, Sara
ReplyDeleteI couldn't get to your post at first because I entered your URL address incomplete. I missed the "at" part before kaplan. I guess we meet again. Hope things went well with you so far. I really find the exercise to be a great experience. Now I just need to make it a habit to doing it more often. I do feel refresh and the method does work. Its a good thing you felt you were not being controlled when your parents performed that technique with you during your childhood year. It's even amazing that you even complied with them. Only if more parents could used that technique more often with their child and not methods that are crucial and dangerous. I enjoy reading your post.
Jamillah, I just actually sat here and thought about how many different noises are going on right now in my house it is amazing. I would love a silent retreat. I think that many moms could appreciate silence! How did you get into it?
ReplyDeleteHatsady, Everything has been great so far, how has it been for you? My parents used it when I was young, I was very sick and in the hospital on and off, so I needed something relaxing to calm me to sleep. It worked well. I tend to use it on my daughter now. I dont think it could work for all children though. I told one of my frineds about it and she tryed it with her kid and stated that the child just looked at her weird! I think that it is something it has to start off young with! LOL!!
